Our Programs:

Research, Documentation and Digital Archiving

Research, Documentation, and Digital Archiving This program under SautiTek is dedicated to preserving and amplifying underrepresented voices, particularly those of youth and children in Tanzania, through intentional knowledge-building practices.

The program centers lived experience, challenges dominant narratives, and values multiple ways of knowing. We prioritize participatory research, oral history projects, and the collection of cultural, social, and personal narratives that are often excluded from formal records or national discourse. The research process is collaborative and reflective, engaging communities not just as subjects, but as co-researchers, authors, and curators of their own stories.

Our approach acknowledges how age, class, geography, and ability shape knowledge production and historical memory. We aim to disrupt extractive research models by fostering relationships of care, consent, and reciprocity with the communities we work alongside.

Through this program, we are building a living archive that serves as both a repository for grassroots memory work and a resource for academic inquiry, advocacy, and public education. By digitizing stories, images, audio, and community artifacts, we ensure long-term accessibility, intergenerational exchange, and cultural continuity.

This digital archive does not exist in isolation, it actively informs our creative and advocacy programming, grounding it in real-life context and histories that matter. Ultimately, this program affirms that storytelling is power, and that research, when done ethically and creatively, can be a tool for healing, resistance, and social transformation.

Advocacy and Training

Areas of focus in advocacy & Training

Media and Storytelling Training:Youth are equipped with practical skills in photography, filmmaking, podcasting, and creative writing to tell their own stories from their own perspectives. These storytelling tools become instruments for personal reflection, community education, and advocacy. Through mentorship and collaborative projects, participants learn to document real-life experiences and use narrative as a means of challenging stereotypes, sparking dialogue, and influencing change.

Digital Literacy: youth especially girls gain a strong understanding of digital rights, safety, and media ethics, alongside technical skills to confidently navigate and contribute to online spaces. The training empowers them to use digital platforms for activism, knowledge sharing, and social connection, while also teaching critical thinking to combat misinformation and cyberbullying.

Art as Advocacy:Through youth-led campaigns and public exhibitions, children will use art to transform their creative works be it paintings, poetry, film, or performance into powerful advocacy tools. These projects amplify the voices of young people, bringing their lived experiences and concerns to the forefront of public discourse. By engaging audiences in schools, communities, and digital spaces, the art becomes a medium to raise awareness, mobilize action, and lead community-driven change.

Community Dialogues:The program facilitates intergenerational and peer-led conversations in safe, inclusive spaces for children to be heard, valued, protected and respected. But also for the community to have dialogues on topics that are often considered uncomfortable and address those taboo topics such as gender equality, menstruation, environmental justice, mental health, and social exclusion. By fostering mutual understanding and empathy, these forums help dismantle stigma and build collective awareness, while encouraging both youth and adults to take part in transforming harmful social norms in our societies.

Creativity and Innovation:Sauti na Teknolojia nurtures creative problem-solving by encouraging children and youth to experiment with technology, art, and local knowledge to address community challenges. From designing upcycled fashion to developing grassroots media campaigns, young participants are encouraged to think outside the box and co-create sustainable solutions.

Innovation not just as a tool for advocacy, but as a mindset that communicates, cultivates leadership, resilience, and entrepreneurship.
